Get Help Paying for an Approved Career Training Program
Manhattan Institute of Management San Diego is an approved training provider offering career-focused programs designed to help students develop skills for in-demand employment opportunities.
Eligible San Diego County residents may qualify for workforce training assistance through the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
Workforce funding may help eligible participants pay for approved training expenses. Eligibility and funding decisions are made by the San Diego Workforce Partnership or its authorized Career Center representatives. Funding is not guaranteed.
Who May Qualify?
You may be eligible for workforce training services when you:
Are at least 18 years old
– Live in San Diego County
– Are unemployed or underemployed
– Meet applicable income or employment requirements
– Have exhausted your unemployment benefits
– Need occupational training to obtain suitable employment
Employed individuals who are not earning self-sufficient wages may also qualify in certain circumstances. A Workforce Career Navigator will review your situation and determine your eligibility.
How to Use San Diego Workforce Benefits at MIM San Diego
Step 1: Select an Approved MIM San Diego Program
Review the workforce-approved training programs available through Manhattan Institute of Management San Diego.
Choose a program that matches your career interests, professional experience and employment goals. Our admissions team can provide program information, including:
– Program curriculum
– Tuition and fees
– Class schedules
– Program length
Admission requirements
– Career objectives
– Credentials or certificates awarded
Selecting a program does not automatically guarantee workforce funding. Your Career Navigator must approve your training plan before you begin the program.
Step 2: Register with CalJOBS
Create or update your account through CalJOBS, California’s online employment and workforce services system.
Make sure your profile contains accurate information about your:
– Employment history
– Education
– Professional skills
– Current employment status
– Career goals
– Contact information
The San Diego Workforce Partnership instructs applicants to register with CalJOBS before completing the eligibility process.
Step 3: Contact the San Diego Workforce Partnership
Contact the San Diego Workforce Partnership to begin the application and eligibility process.
You may:

– Contact the Workforce Partnership through its official website
– Visit a Career Center Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
– Career Centers provide employment and career-development assistance at no cost to San Diego County job seekers.
Step 4: Complete the Intake and Eligibility Process
A Career Center representative will help you complete the required intake and eligibility assessment.
During this process, you may discuss:
– Your current employment situation
– Barriers affecting your ability to find employment
– Your previous education and work experience
– Your occupational interests
-The training required for your career goal
– Whether an approved MIM San Diego program is appropriate for your employment plan
– Approval is based on individual eligibility, career goals, program availability and available workforce funding.
Step 5: Prepare Your Documents
Bring the documents requested by your Career Center representative to your eligibility appointment.
Documents may include:
- Driver’s license or government-issued identification
- Birth certificate or passport
- Social Security information
- Proof of San Diego County residency
- Employment or unemployment records
- Proof of income
- Selective Service registration, when applicable
- DD-214 or other military documentation, when applicable
- School or educational records
- Public-assistance documentation, when applicable
The exact documents required will depend on your individual circumstances. The San Diego Workforce Partnership provides a document checklist as part of its intake and eligibility process.
Step 6: Tell Your Career Navigator You Want to Attend MIM San Diego
Inform your Career Navigator that you are interested in attending:
Manhattan Institute of Management San Diego
Provide the navigator with the name of your selected program. MIM San Diego can provide the program documentation needed to support your training request, including the course description, schedule, tuition information and program dates.
Your Career Navigator may review whether:
– The program is approved for workforce participation
– The training supports an in-demand occupation
– You meet the program’s admission requirements
– The program supports your Individual Employment Plan
– Funding is available for your training
Step 7: Receive Written Authorization
Do not begin classes or make nonrefundable payments until your Career Navigator confirms that your training has been approved.
Depending on the funding arrangement, the Career Center may issue an authorization, referral, voucher or Individual Training Account for your approved program.
Workforce benefits generally cannot be applied retroactively to classes or expenses incurred before authorization.
Step 8: Complete Enrollment at MIM San Diego
After receiving authorization, contact the MIM San Diego admissions office to finalize your enrollment.
You may be asked to complete:
– An MIM San Diego application
– An enrollment agreement
– Required disclosures and acknowledgment forms
– An admissions interview or assessment
– Program-specific admission requirementsA class schedule confirmationWorkforce authorization documents
– MIM San Diego will coordinate with your Workforce representative as permitted and provide the documentation needed to complete your enrollment.
Step 9: Attend Classes and Maintain Satisfactory Progress
Students receiving workforce benefits must actively participate in their approved training.
You will be expected to:
- Attend classes regularly
- Arrive on time
- Complete assignments and examinations
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Follow MIM San Diego policies
- Communicate promptly about attendance or academic concerns
- Complete all required program hours
- Work toward the approved certificate or credential
MIM San Diego may provide attendance, progress and completion information to the Workforce Partnership as required for program administration.
Step 10: Complete Your Program and Prepare for Employment
After completing your program, MIM San Diego and the San Diego Workforce Partnership may help you prepare for the next stage of your career.
